Dear PS 39 Families:

I want to officially welcome you to the 2019-20 School Year! For those of you who are new to our school, I want you to know that you are coming to an absolutely wonderful place. Our teachers and staff are passionate, caring, hardworking, and always learning something new for the benefit of your children. We are a collaborative and driven group of people who take learning seriously, while also making personal connections with our kids to help them succeed. This is my 10th yer as the principal of P.S. 39, this school is where my heart lies, and I consider it the perfect opportunity and place to do the most important work in the world...helping our community grow in all ways! There is no other place I would rather be!

We have been redesignated as a "Lighthouse School" by Franklin Covey. This is a great achievement, many years in the making, by our entire community. Each day our students recite the 7 Habits to create a unified environment. We embody leadership skills, respect and our Tiger’s win-win attitude. Our students learn the importance of getting along and resolving conflict peacefully using research-based tools to teach them to become civic-minded citizens. We will break ground this year for a brand new gym in the small school yard. P.S. 39 was chosen by the Mayor's P.E. initiative to receive this new space in order to increase physical education for our students.

I am thrilled at the opportunity to get to know all of you and engage in the educational process together. I am looking forward to continuing to build relationships with returning families. I am a big believer in communication and honesty. If we are honest with each other and communicate with each other then we will be successful. I also believe that building strong relationships between home and school is a key factor in increasing student achievement. As principal, my door is always open and I welcome your input. I strongly believe that parental involvement is an essential component of student success. A wise person said, “Be involved, your child’s future depends on it.” Research continues to show increased academic achievement and high school graduation rates for students whose parents are engaged in the educational process.

I look forward to working with you and your child. We can’t wait to meet you!

In partnership,

Tracey A. Wright

Principal, P.S. 39
