MARCH NEWSLETTER 

 

Please help your child be prepared for P.E. by wearing sneakers.

 

Kindergarten & First Grade

 

The children in kindergarten and first grade will be learning how to strike with a paddle making an object such as a balloon, ball, or beanbag go upward.  They will also be using the parachute to work on cooperation, teamwork, and having fun!

                                                                                     

 

Second & Third Grade

 

The children in second and third grade will be learning how to use a racket or paddle to strike a ball upward using consecuitive hits.  They will also work on striking a ball over a net is small games such as badmitten and pickleball.

 

     Fourth & Fifth Grade

 

 

The children in fourth and fifth grade will be learning how to strike a volleyball upward, strike a ball using a paddle or racket over a net or against a wall. They will be practicing offensive and defensive strategies in small games such as volleyball, badmitten, and pickleball.

 

 

Muscle Hustle

Your heart is a muscle; lets dedicate this month to cardiovascular exercise. The students a PS. 39 run daily because they know that running makes us SMARTER...FASTER... STRONGER!

  

Wellness Activities

Exercises

(repeat 3 times)

15 windmills

15  Jumps

45 Second air squat hold

10 Burpees

20 second run in place

 

Fitness Fanatic

National Nutrition Month® is an annual nutrition education and information campaign created by the Academy of Nutrition and Dietetics. The campaign, celebrated each year during the month of March, focuses attention on the importance of making informed food choices and developing sound eating and physical activity habits.

During National Nutrition Month®, help achieve the vision of a world where all people thrive through the transformative power of food and nutrition.

Key Messages:

  1. Discover the benefits of a healthy eating style.
  2. Choose foods and drinks that are good for your health.
  3. Include a variety of healthful foods from all of the food groups on a regular basis.
  4. Select healthier options when eating away from home.
  5. Be mindful of portion sizes. Eat and drink the amount that's right for you, as MyPlate encourages us to do.
  6. Keep it simple. Eating right doesn't have to be complicated.
  7. Make food safety part of your everyday routine.
  8. Help to reduce food waste by considering the foods you have on hand before buying more at the store.
  9. Find activities that you enjoy and be physically active most days of the week.
  10. Consult the nutrition experts. Registered Dietitian Nutritionists can provide sound, easy-to-follow personalized nutrition advice to meet your lifestyle, preferences and health-related needs.
